I've composed dozens of Honduras itineraries since 2019. Most travelers don't know where to start \u2014 the country is little known, and information in French is nearly nonexistent. Here are two tested frameworks that work, plus a combo with Guatemala.<\/em><\/p>\n

Short framework: 10 days \u2014 Cop\u00e1n, north coast and Roat\u00e1n<\/h2>\n

Day 1<\/strong> : Arrival San Pedro Sula, transfer to Cop\u00e1n Ruinas (3h). Night at Hotel Marina Copan<\/strong> or Hacienda San Lucas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Day 2<\/strong> : Full day at the archaeological site of Cop\u00e1n<\/strong> + tunnels<\/strong> + sculpture museum<\/strong>. Local guide recommended (Don Rigoberto or the Asociaci\u00f3n de Gu\u00edas). Night in Cop\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

Day 3<\/strong> Morning Macaw Mountain Bird Park<\/strong>. Afternoon village visit, hot springs Luna Jaguar<\/strong> (20 min). Night in Cop\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

Day 4<\/strong> : Drive Cop\u00e1n \u2192 Lago de Yojoa (4h). Afternoon Pulhapanzak Waterfall<\/strong>. Night at D&D Brewery & Lodge<\/strong> or Finca Las Glorias<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Day 5<\/strong> : Morning birdwatching at the lake. Drive Lago de Yojoa \u2192 La Ceiba (3h). Night in La Ceiba.<\/p>\n

Day 6<\/strong> : Ferry La Ceiba \u2192 Roat\u00e1n (Galaxy Wave, 1h15). Settle in. Afternoon at West Bay<\/strong>beach. Night on Roat\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

Day 7<\/strong> : Diving or snorkeling day. The reef starts 30 meters from the beach at West Bay. 2 dives: 70-90 USD.<\/p>\n

Day 8<\/strong> : Excursion to Roat\u00e1n's east side: Punta Gorda<\/strong> (Garifuna village), Camp Bay Beach<\/strong>beach. Night on Roat\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

Day 9<\/strong> : Free day. Kayaking, snorkeling, or a trip to Cayos Cochinos<\/strong> (full day, 120 USD). Night on Roat\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

Day 10<\/strong> : Flight Roat\u00e1n \u2192 San Pedro Sula. Return flight.<\/p>\n

Indicative budget<\/strong> : \u20ac1,200-1,800 per person (excluding international flights).<\/p>\n

Long framework: 14 days \u2014 The complete Honduras<\/h2>\n

Days 1-3<\/strong> : Cop\u00e1n program identical to the short framework (site, tunnels, Macaw Mountain, Luna Jaguar).<\/p>\n

Day 4<\/strong> : Drive Cop\u00e1n \u2192 Gracias (3h30). Settle in. Afternoon visit of the colonial center, Fortaleza San Crist\u00f3bal<\/strong>. Night at Hotel Celaque<\/strong> or Posada de Don Juan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Day 5<\/strong> : Hike Celaque National Park<\/strong> (full day, up to the first camp in the cloud forest). For the summit (2,849 m), plan a 2-day bivouac. Night in Gracias.<\/p>\n

Day 6<\/strong> : Morning at the hot springs of Hot Springs<\/strong>. Afternoon visiting a Lenca community (The Field<\/strong>, black pottery). Drive Gracias \u2192 Lago de Yojoa (4h). Night at Lago de Yojoa.<\/p>\n

Day 7<\/strong> : Birdwatching + Pulhapanzak waterfall. Drive to La Ceiba (3h). Night in La Ceiba.<\/p>\n

Day 8<\/strong> : Morning hike Pico Bonito<\/strong> (half-day, waterfalls). Afternoon ferry \u2192 Roat\u00e1n. Settle in. Night on Roat\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

Day 9<\/strong> : Reef diving or snorkeling day. Night on Roat\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

Day 10<\/strong> : Excursion to Cayos Cochinos<\/strong> or Roat\u00e1n's east side. Night on Roat\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

Day 11<\/strong> : Ferry Roat\u00e1n \u2192 Utila (via La Ceiba or direct boat). Settle in. Night on Utila.<\/p>\n

Day 12<\/strong> : Utila diving or snorkeling. In season (March-May, Sept-Oct): whale shark outing. Night on Utila.<\/p>\n

Day 13<\/strong> : Ferry Utila \u2192 La Ceiba. Drive or fly to San Pedro Sula. Transit night.<\/p>\n

Day 14<\/strong> Return flight.<\/p>\n

Indicative budget<\/strong> : \u20ac1,800-2,800 per person.<\/p>\n

Honduras + Guatemala combo (14 days)<\/h2>\n

The Honduras-Guatemala border (El Florido \/ Cop\u00e1n) is easy to cross. The classic combo:<\/p>\n

Days 1-4<\/strong> Guatemala Antigua<\/strong> (2 nights) + Lake Atitl\u00e1n<\/strong> (2 nights).<\/p>\n

Day 5<\/strong> : Shuttle Guatemala \u2192 Cop\u00e1n Ruinas (7-8h with the border crossing, or direct Antigua-Cop\u00e1n shuttle).<\/p>\n

Days 6-14<\/strong> : Honduras circuit (Cop\u00e1n + north coast + islands depending on available time).<\/p>\n

The advantage: combining Guatemala's cultural richness (Antigua, indigenous markets, volcanoes) with Honduras's nature and diving. Two complementary countries, one trip.<\/p>\n

The Golden Rule<\/h2>\n

Honduras has to be earned. The roads are long, the transfers sometimes chaotic. But that's what filters the travelers \u2014 those who make it here are rewarded with authentic experiences and unbeatable prices. Allow time for the unexpected \u2014 in Honduras, the journey is part of the trip.<\/p>\n
