5 km from West End, West Bay = a beach that is regularly ranked Top 10 Worldwide TripAdvisor. 2 km of fine white sand, turquoise water, palm trees. Snorkeling from shore (at 30m, the reef begins). Beach clubs, beachfront restaurants, all-inclusive hotels (Mayan Princess, Las Verandas). Very popular during high season (Dec-April) with cruise ship passengers. Prefer morning/late afternoon.
On the northeast coast, Punta Gorda = first community Garifuna out of St. Vincent (African-Caribbean descendants who arrived in 1797). Culture UNESCO Intangible Heritage. Visit: artisan workshops, dance Point (famous rhythm), unique gastronomy (cassava bread, hurts Coco plantain fish, covered coconut soup). At Sandy Bay, the RIMS = integrated marine research institute Anthony's Key Resort. Educational and interactive programs with Atlantic dolphins raised on-site. Cayos Cochinos = a protected archipelago 1 hour by boat from Roatán. 13 islets including 2 inhabited islands (Garífuna). Unspoiled snorkeling, deserted beaches, fried fish for lunch. Direct flights: Houston (United, 2h30), Atlanta (Delta), Miami (American), Toronto (Sunwing). From Europe: via Madrid → SAP (Iberia/Avianca), then a 30-minute domestic flight from SAP to RTB. There is also a ferry from La Ceiba (1 hour 15 minutes, $40).
Fewer than 4 nights = not enough time to enjoy (arrival flight + 1 day acclimatization, return flight). 5 nights ideal: 2-3 dives West End, 1 West Bay, 1 East End/Garifuna. 7 nights if PADI Open Water certification (4 intensive days + relaxation).

Lobster = Roatán's signature, but Seasonal July-February. March-June Veda (protected breeding season), national ban. If offered out of season = illegal fishing, refuse. Signature restaurants: Argentinian Grill, Sundowners.
Lempira (HNL) is the official currency. USD widely accepted (resorts, tourist restaurants). Credit cards accepted at resorts and restaurants in the city center. ATMs in West End and Coxen Hole. Tips: 10% at restaurants, $1-2 per piece of luggage. Small bills.
