The Route of the Flowers — a panoramic route of 36 km crossing 5 highland villages on the Apaneca-Ilamatepec range, at 1,200-1,800 m. From north to south: Nahuizalco (indigenous crafts, basketry), Salcoatitán (the smallest), Juayúa (weekend food festival), Apaneca (the highest, coffee), Concepción de Ataco (the murals).

Climate cool temperate climate (15-25°C), signature morning mist, specialty arabica coffee plantations, flowers everywhere (March-April peak bloom), piñatas and brass bands at festivals. The Concepción de Ataco = the star village: +100 murals painted by local artists since 2005, turning every wall into a work of naïve art. Juayúa = festival gastronómico Saturday-Sunday (rabbit, iguana, turtle, rare traditional dishes). Waterfalls Los Chorros de la Calera, volcanic lagoons (Laguna Verde, Laguna de las Ninfas), hot springs (Apaneca).
