The North Pacific "to the signature beaches"

Guanacaste — the Province of Gold and Sabaneros (cowboys), Northwestern Pacific of Costa Rica. A 200 km of signature coastline lined with iconic beaches (Conchal, Hermosa, Flamingo, Tamarindo, Sámara), coral reefs, mangroves and the only dry tropical forest from Central America. It is also the preferred gateway for North Americans via the airport Liberia (LIR).

The experience is multifaceted : lazy mornings on the beaches with warm waters (dry season: 300 days of sunshine a year), afternoons spent hiking on the Active volcano Rincón de la Vieja (therapeutic mud baths), river safaris Palo Verde (crocodiles, jabirus), authentic experience of Cowboy ranch, and the laying of the leatherback turtles at Playa Grande (November-February).

Our on-the-ground tip (DMC on site since 2018): Spend at least 4 nights in Guanacaste to make the most of your trip—2 nights on the beach (Conchal, Tamarindo), 1 day at Rincón de la Vieja, and 1 day in Palo Verde or at a ranch. Ideal as the final stop on a tour or as a starting point via a direct LIR flight from the U.S.

  • Out-of-season Leatherback turtles: October-February only. Off-season = no viewing possible.
  • Reef-safe conchal without cream: Fragile ecosystem. Mineral sunscreen is required.
  • Boat excursions on days with strong winds: Papagayo Dec-Mar, rough seas. Check forecast.
  • Drinking tap water: Not potable. Filtered water at the hotel, reusable water bottle.
  • Do it all in 3 days: Minimum 4-5 nights to combine beach + Rincón + Palo Verde.
