The bride of the Caribbean

La Ceiba — nicknamed "The Bride of the Caribbean" (Caribbean Bride), 3rd largest city in Honduras (200,000 inhabitants), ecotourism capital and a hub for accessing the Bay Islands. Nestled between the Caribbean Sea and the Pico Bonito (2,436 m), iconic mountain with its Pico Bonito National Park (564 km²) — one of the most impressive in Honduras.

Identity: Jungle, water, party. The Cangrejal River who descends from Pico Bonito = paradise of Class III-IV rafting (World sites). El Bejuco Waterfalls and other waterfalls in the jungle. Garifuna Communities to Sambo Creek (15 min) with UNESCO Punta dance and Afro-Caribbean cuisine. Hub Bay Islands : Goloson Airport (LCE) with La Costeña flights to Roatán/Utila, Galaxy ferry to Roatán (1h15), and Utila Princess to Utila (1h). And the La Ceiba Carnival The 3rd Saturday in May, the most important in AC after Rio and Trinidad: 600,000 visitors, Garifuna parades, samba.

Our on-the-ground recommendation: 2-3 nights ideal — 1 day rafting the Cangrejal River, 1 day Pico Bonito National Park (trails + waterfalls), 1 day Garifuna Sambo Creek or Cuyamel beach. Top combination: Copán → SAP → La Ceiba → Roatán/Utila (direct flight). Ideal for Archaeological Mayan ruins + Caribbean diving with a jungle/adventure stop.
