The signature image: El Arco (the Arch) — a natural rock formation where the Sea of Cortés meets the Pacific. From December to March, migrating humpback whales fill the bay.

El Arco — the mythical rock formation at Land's End, where the Sea of Cortés meets the Pacific. Access by boat only (water taxi $15 or 2h tour $40). Next to it: Lover's Beach (Cortés side, swimming) and Divorce Beach (Pacific side, currents). Sea lions as a bonus at Land's End.
Cabo = the world capital of marlin fishing. The marina (380 slips) is the hub: sportfishing departures at dawn, waterfront restaurants, bars, nightlife (Cabo Wabo, Squid Roe). Shared fishing trip $150-300/pers, private charter $800-2000/day. Bisbee's Black & Blue tournament (October) = the biggest prize money in the world.
35 km north of Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo is the other Los Cabos: colonial plaza from the 18th century, Jesuit mission, lanes lined with bougainvillea. The art district (Gallery District) hosts every Thursday evening (Nov-June) theArt Walk : open galleries, wine, musicians. A sharp gastronomic scene (Flora's Field Kitchen, Acre).
1h to the north, Cabo Pulmo Marine Park — UNESCO, the only coral reef in the North American Pacific. Cousteau called it "the aquarium of the world". Legendary diving with schools of jacks, hammerhead sharks (June-August), manta rays, turtles. Snorkeling from the beach, scuba diving with local operators ($120-150 / 2 dives).
Of December to March, the Los Cabos bay becomes a nursery: the humpback whales migrate from Alaska to give birth in these warm waters. 2h observation outing ($60-90/pers). For the gray whales (Magdalena Bay, 4h N), a day trip to watch them approach the boats ($180-250/pers, magical).
The beach is organized around the Fifth Avenue (urban life), of seafront (beaches, beach clubs, ferry) and Playacar (Premium residential in the south). Understanding the 3 changes everything.

An herb liqueur endemic to Baja, reputed to be an aphrodisiac. Neat as a digestif or in a damiana margarita (the region's signature cocktail). The bottle shaped like an indigenous woman makes a perfect souvenir.
