Nicaragua's two seasons
The climate is tropical, hot year-round (often 30 to 35 °C on the Pacific side). It's the rains that set the calendar:
- The dry season (“verano”), from November to April : fine weather, clear skies, ideal for combining colonial cities, volcanoes, and beaches. It's the high season, especially from February to April.
- The green season, from May to October : showers often at the end of the day, dazzling nature, and gentler prices. You nevertheless avoid September and October, the wettest months.
As in Costa Rica, the green season is nothing to shy away from: well organized, you enjoy the morning and ease off when the rain arrives.

It's the point many forget. The Pacific slope (Granada, León, Ometepe, San Juan del Sur) is dry from November to April. The Caribbean coast coast (Corn Islands, Bluefields) keeps humidity longer: it can rain there until January, and its driest windows fall more in February-April. The high season follows the fine weather: December to April, with peaks at Christmas, New Year, and Holy Week (Semana Santa), when beaches and hotels fill up — book early. Conversely, May, June, and November are excellent “smart” months: superb nature, reduced crowds, and better rates.
