Birthplace of the all-inclusive resort, beach capital of the Caribbean

In 1969, a young Dominican entrepreneur named Frank Rainieri buys 58 km² of coastal jungle in the southeast of Hispaniola — land considered worthless. In 1971, he opens the very first hotel there: the Punta Cana Club. Fifty years later, it is the most visited tourist area in the Caribbean : 4 million travelers a year, 50 km of coastline, more than 70 resorts.

The region divides into four distinct zones: Bávaro (the family all-inclusive epicenter), Cap Cana (golfing luxury), Uvero Alto (the calm, preserved frontier) and Macao (the wild public beach). The airport, PUJ — iconic thatched roofs designed by Óscar de la Renta — welcomes direct flights from Paris, Madrid, Rome, New York, Toronto, Lisbon and 15+ European cities.

Safe swimming at 27-29°C year-round, no ground swell thanks to the reef.

Getting there by 4×4 buggy or quad on the red dirt tracks through the jungle = an experience in itself, dust guaranteed.

How many nights should I plan in Punta Cana?
Punta Cana alone = 3 to 5 nights is the standard, but Toucan Discovery recommends 3 nights maximum in a resort, then 4-5 nights elsewhere on the island (Samaná, Santo Domingo, Bayahibe). Seven days doing nothing in an all-inclusive bubble = missing the Dominican Republic. The point of our proposal: balancing lounging + discovery.
Is Punta Cana suitable for families?
Perfectly. The all-inclusive resorts are designed for it: kids' clubs by age, pools with slides, a beach protected by the coral reef (no waves), family excursions (Marinarium, Saona). The chains Iberostar, Barceló, Bahia Principe, Riu all offer family packages. For teens: Hard Rock Hotel or Paradisus Punta Cana.
Is Punta Cana dangerous?
Very safe in the resorts and tourist zones (Bávaro, Cap Cana, Uvero Alto) — 24/7 security, entry checks, patrolled beaches. Organized excursions = zero worries. Standard caution for Higüey town and night journeys outside the tourist zones: follow the briefing given by our DMC on arrival. Don't drive at night off the highway.
What budget should I plan for?
4* all-inclusive resorts: 120-180 USD/pers/night. Premium 5* (Iberostar Grand, Riu Palace): 200-300 USD/pers/night.
