Access to the park is Only with a certified guide via 3 stations: San Pedrillo (North, from Drake), Mermaid (center, the most famous, by boat or plane), The Lioness (South, since Carate-Puerto Jimenez). Strict quotas (60-100 visitors/day depending on stations). Accommodation bases are Drake Bay and Puerto Jiménez. Domestic flight SJO-PJM (40 min) or 6h+ drive from SJO.

The Sirena Station in the center of the park the richest in fauna. Access by boat (1 hour from Drake) or plane (15 minutes from Puerto Jiménez). Trails: 8-km Beach Trail (top), Río Claro Trail (jaguars), Espaveles (signature wildlife). Certified guide required ($80-100/person, 4-6 hours). Option to stay overnight on-site in a group tent or at the ranger station.
Corcovado is home to the 5 big cats of Costa Rica (jaguar, puma, ocelot, jaguarundi, margay) and iconic wildlife: Baird's tapir (the largest land mammal in the CR), giant anteaters, Aras Macau (red and blue), 4 species of monkeys, 2- and 3-toed sloths, crocodiles. An expert guide maximizes your chances. Departure dawn 5 am.
20 km off the coast of Drake Bay, Caño Island = top Pacific dive CR. Clear waters (visibility 25m+), Whitetip reef sharks, turtles, manta rays, pelagics. Open Water certification is sufficient. Two morning dives ($130-160). Snorkeling is also available. Best time: June–October (warmer water). Day trip from Drake.
The Sweet Gulf And Osa waters = world-renowned concentration of humpback whales. Two populations: north (July-October) and snow (December-March), so they can be seen 8 months a year. 4-hour boat trip, $80-110 per person. Also spotted dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and manta rays. More active than Manuel Antonio.
At the northern entrance of the peninsula, the Sierpe-Térraba mangroves Largest mangrove in Central America (32,000 ha). Silent boat trip or kayak: American crocodiles, jacanas, egrets, white ibises, rays. This tour can be combined with a transfer to Drake Bay. ~$10–$16 per person, 2–3 hours.

On the Osa Peninsula, the cuisine is simple, marine, jungle. Fresh fish (mahi-mahi, snapper, marlin), heart of palm (heart of palm), gallo pinto, and casados in the sodas. Premium lodges serve farm-to-table with garden produce. Very few options outside of the lodges (remote area).
Bone Luxury eco-lodges in the jungle. No large resort (protected area). Our land selection (DMC on-site since 2018): eco-luxury Drake and Puerto Jiménez, more accessible lodges, village base for a more modest budget.

Park entry is strictly regulated. A certified local guide is required ($80–100 per person, 4–6 hours). They know where the jaguars, tapirs, and macaws are. Without a guide, you’ll miss out on 90%.
SJO → PJM (40 min) or DRK (50 min) via Sansa/Skyway $130. Avoids a 6+ hour drive. Baggage limit: 14 kg. Book before seasonal flights begin.
Sirena Trails = mud, river crossings. Rubber boots provided by the lodges (check sizes in advance). Lightweight long pants, DEET 30%+ mosquito repellent.
Jaguars and tapirs are most active at dawn and dusk. Leaving at 5 AM from Sirena Station gives you the best chance. Sleeping on-site is possible (communal tent or ranger station).
Top Dive Spot in the Pacific. Day trip from Drake $130-160 (2 dives). Open Water certification required. Best visibility from June to October. White-tip sharks are common.
