Accompanied tour in Costa Rica — 14 days / 13 nights in a small French-speaking group
The promise
Fourteen days to experience it all: the great northern classics — Poás coffee, Monteverde cloud forest, Arenal Volcano, Tortuguero canals — then the southern Caribbean and its unique culture, between Cocles beach, the Bribri village of Yorkín, and the Gandoca-Manzanillo reefs. And when you think you've seen it all, the trip crosses the country to end with three days of all-inclusive beach relaxation in Punta Leona, on the Pacific. Small French-speaking group, naturalist guide, meticulous organization.
San José → Café du Poás → Monteverde → Arenal → Tortuguero → Puerto Viejo & Cahuita → Yorkín (Bribri Territory) → Gandoca-Manzanillo → Punta Leona (Pacific) → San José

Day by day
Regardless of your landing time, a driver will be waiting for you at the international airport San Jose. Transfer to a 4-star hotel in the heart of a convenient neighborhood—restaurants, shops, swimming pool. Rest of the day free to relax after your flight.
Are you arriving the day before? Add a pre-tour night in San Jose — we'll take care of everything (see «Extend the Adventure»).
First breakfast with the group and your guide, then drive to a coffee plantation on the slopes of Poás: plantation, factory, roasting workshop, and tasting – the golden bean of Costa Rica will hold no more secrets for you. Typical lunch, a detour through Grecia and Sarchí and their artisanal traditions, then a scenic drive up the Tilarán mountain range to your eco-lodge. Monteverde. And the day isn't over: in the early evening, a night outing is included in the forest, flashlight in hand, with a local guide specializing in nocturnal wildlife.
In the morning, head for one of the great reserves Monteverde — Curi-Cancha, Santa Elena, or the Ecological Sanctuary: the cloud forest is home to over 400 species of birds and 100 species of mammals, and your naturalist guide reads its trails like no other. After lunch, it's time for the hanging bridges of a private reserve to overlook the canopy, before visiting a hummingbird garden at the time they feed at the feeders. Dinner at a good restaurant in the area.
The most daring can trade suspension bridges for zip lines (optional, fees payable on-site).
A leisurely road trip through the Tilarán mountain range: photo stops whenever monkeys, coatis, or birds appear, a coffee break overlooking Lake Arenal, and roadside craft stalls along the way. In the afternoon, settling into a charming hotel near the volcano. Arenal — Relax by the pool, stroll through the gardens, or go on a guided observation tour. Dinner at the hotel restaurant.
Tonight's option: thermal baths heated by the volcano (included in some hotels on the tour, otherwise a fee is charged on-site).
Morning exploration of the national park volcano sector Arenal trails on old lava flows, viewpoints facing the cone—now dormant—and your guide's stories of the giant's past anger. Costa Rican lunch at a small farm on the opposite slope, followed by a visit to its plantations, nursery, and biomass digester. Return to the hotel for a free afternoon: pool, gardens full of birds, or a trip to La Fortuna.
Very early departure, hearty breakfast in Guápiles, then boarding at the La Pavona dock for a fast one-hour boat ride between rivers and canals—first caimans and herons along the way. Settling into the lodge at Tortuguero, buffet lunch, then a visit to the village nestled between canals and the Caribbean Sea, before a walk back along the beach. Dinner at the lodge.
From July to October, optional: night observation of sea turtle nesting (fees payable on site).
Day marked by guided explorations, by boat and on foot, in the national park of Tortuguero howler monkeys, sloths, caimans, and some of the country's richest birdlife, in one of Central America's wettest regions. Between excursions, the lodge offers a swimming pool, trails, and a frog garden. Another excursion on the canals in the late afternoon, followed by a buffet dinner at the lodge.
During the green season (July-October), optional: turtle nesting observation excursion (fees payable on-site).
Boat back to La Pavona, buffet lunch in Guápiles, then the road descends the Caribbean coast to Puerto Viejo — its Afro-Caribbean ambiance, its colorful houses, its laid-back rhythm. Three-night stay in a charming hotel a stone's throw from Cocles beach. Free end of the day between the pool, the beach, and nearby snorkeling spots. Dinner at your leisure in one of the many local restaurants.
A day not to be forgotten. From Bambú, the dugout canoe travels up the Sixaola River and then the Yorkin to the Bribri village of Yorkín, located on the border of Panama. After a walk through the forest and cocoa plantations, the community welcomes you and shares its traditions: cocoa cultivation, hut construction, bows and arrows, and handicrafts. Traditional lunch at the community center, then return towards Puerto Viejo on foot, by pirogue, and by road. Free evening: beach or pool.
Exploring the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, a hidden treasure of southern Caribbean coast Coastal trails, mangroves, sea turtle nesting beaches, and the Punta Uva coral reef, ideal for snorkeling (equipment rental extra). Over 350 bird species have been recorded here—and sometimes a tapir or manatee for the lucky ones. Typical Caribbean lunch facing the beach, in the village of Manzanillo. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon, free dinner.
The Great Crossing: early morning breakfast facing the Caribbean, lunch at San Jose, then descend the southwestern slope of the Central Mountain Range to the Pacific. In the late afternoon, settle into your hotel village in Punta Leona, a few minutes' walk from Manta and Blanca beaches. Dinner at the restaurant and your first evening by the ocean – vacation mode officially begins.
Full day at your leisure with all-inclusive formula: buffets, fruit juices, local wines and beers, kayaking, snorkeling, volleyball, mini-golf, three swimming pools, and two of the country's most beautiful beaches just steps from your bungalow. The curious can join a guided hike in the estate's private reserve or visit the butterfly aviary – others have an appointment with their hammock.
Extending the bliss: swimming, white sand, naps in the shade of almond trees, and capuchin monkeys as spectators. The estate is nestled at the edge of the forest, in the region of Carara National Park — even at the beach, Costa Rican nature is never far away. Last sunset over the Pacific, buffet dinner, and free evening.
Breakfast by the sea, then shuttle back to the international airport San Jose (Schedule a flight departing after 2 PM). You'll leave with two ribs, a volcano, a cloud forest, and a bribri village in your memory — or extend your journey with a Toucan signature extension.
